World's Highest Paid Carlos Tevez Had Nightmare Start To His Shanghai Shenhua Career 1

Former Juventus, Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez had a worst possible start to his Shanghai Shenhua career as the club were knocked out of the Asian Champions League play-off match against Brisbane Roar.

The Argentine has joined the Chinese outfit amid so much attention as he signed a two-year deal with Shanghai Shenhua which made him the highest paid footballer ever netting around £615,000-per-week at the club.

But the veteran striker didn’t have the start he planned as the Chinese outfit were knocked out of the prestigious Champions League as first half goals from Brandon Borrello and Tommy Oar saw Shanghai Shenhua succumb to an embarrassing loss. The result meant the club are the first Chinese Super League team to lose a Champions League play-off in 14 years.

After an impressive performance, Brisbane Roar will now progress to the group stages where they face Japan’s Kashima Antlers, Muangthong United from Thailand and former champions Ulsan Hyundai of South Korea.

Carlos Tevez is one of the many big names that moved to Chinese Super League this year as he followed the footsteps of former Southampton striker Graziano Pelle and Chelsea forward Oscar.

Brisbane Roar twitter account made a savage tweet after their impressive 0-2 away win which paved way into the biggest club tournament in Asia as they wrote: “FULL TIME | Carlos Who? A world-class performance confirms our qualification for !

The home fans were really left disgusted with the performance of Shanghai as they booed the team at half time and despite the urgency showed by Shenhua they failed to score a goal to tighten things in the final minutes as they lost comprehensively.

Coach Poyet will be under huge pressure having failed to beat Brisbane in the first official game as in charge and he would be looking to put in a much more impressive performance in the league this season to make amends for the dismal champions league performance.
