Indian captain Virat Kohli scored 111* while Murali Vijay hit an impressive 108 to guide India to 356/3 on Day 1 of the one-off Test against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.
On a bright Thursday morning, Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first. The visitors were quick in making a breakthrough, as Taskin bowled KL Rahul for just two in the first over itself. New ball did seem to trouble batting pair of Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara but couldn’t tinker their plans on a large scale. On the other hand, some sloppy attempt in the outfield did help India’s cause too.
Both Vijay and Pujara first guided India to a safe position, before helping themselves to reach triple digits. Pujara, who often gets himself going at Rajiv Gandhi stadium, failed to reach the landmark by 17 runs, however, broke a unique record in the meanwhile, which was held for nearly 52 years.
Moments later, Vijay reached his second hundred versus Bangladesh and ninth overall in Tests. Showing glimpses of his class, he kept on reminding everyone why he is one of the better Indian batsman in longer format of the game.

His innings though was cut short by Taijul Islam on 108, when a lazy shot saw him getting clean bowled on 108. Captain Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane then took over the charge and led India’s domination on field.
Virat Kohli, who toppled every England bowler to score 655 runs in India’s last Test series, continued to notch up runs and break records parallely. He, in the quest to stamp his authority, became the first Indian captain to score 1000 or more runs in one home season.
Purple patch, who has hit Virat Kohli like anything, continued to favour him as the flamboyant batsman completed his 16th Test hundred and second one in the last three games. Rahane, on other hand, was decisive in his short making as he remained unbeaten on 45 at stumps on Day 1.
At Stumps On Day One:
India – 356/3; Virat Kohli 111*(141), Murali Vijay 108*(160), Taijul Islam 1/50.
