Virat Kohli Becomes First Indian Skipper To Score 1000-Plus Runs In 2016-17 Home Test Season 1

Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who is in the form of his life, has achieved another feat to become first Indian captain on Thursday by scoring 1000-plus runs in Test cricket for the 2016-17 season at home before notching his first Test hundred against Bangladesh and 16th overall in his significant Test career.

The 28-year-old batting sensation achieved the milestone while batting against Bangladesh on Day One of the ongoing Test match in Hyderabad.

In nine Tests, Kohli has scored 1066 runs in a 2016-17 season at a whopping average of 88.83 which includes four hundreds and two fifties.

Kohli was batting on 102 off 132 balls when this report was filed.

Before the start of One-off Test, Kohli had amassed 964 runs and was 36 runs short to reach 1000-mark.

However, Kohli also becomes seventh overall Indian batsman after Mohinder Amarnath, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag to score 1000 runs during a home season.

Kohli has also become the seventh overall skipper to notch 1000-plus runs in Tests during the home season which includes Graham Gooch (Eng), Graeme Smith (SA), Brian Lara (WI), Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Bob Simpson from Australia.

Since making his debut in 2011, Kohli has smashed 16 hundreds and 14 fifties so far.
