Alan Pardrew has been named as the new Crystal Palace manager days after he avoided direct questions about being linked with the role. It was no surprise when Pardrew avoided media after Newcastle’s 3-2 win over Evrton as it was known to him about Crystal Palace’s offer. Pardrew’s appointment at Palace however, comes at a price for Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.
Mike Ashley is having to settle to a compromise with Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish for a £2 Million compensation instead of paying Pardrew the full £5 Million which he was supposed to get as per his contract. Mike Ashley has taken the cheaper of the two options to show Pardrew the door from St. James Park.
Alan Pardrew will now be the Crystal Palace manager where he was once a fans’ favourite in his playing days. This move will come as a relief for Alan Pardrew who just could not work with the philosophies of Mile Ashley. I see this change doing Alan Pardrew more good than harming Alan Pardrew.
Mike Ashley is known to run Newcastle from up to bottom, not only he controls the transfer funds but also the transfer dealings that eventually take place. Ever since being named the Premier League manager of the year in for 2011-12 season, it has all been downhill for Pardrew.
Allan Pardrew has constantly seen his best players being sold. Demba Ba, Andy Carroll, Yohan Cabaye and in recent weeks Pardrew was clearly told by Mike Ashley that there will no funds available in January and Moussa Sissoko could be on his way out with Arsenal and PSG interested in signing the Frenchman.
Mike Ashley is an owner who wants to see his side be in the premier League and guarantee him a £60-70 Million turnover every single season and clearly Allan Pardrew had enough of this and now has decided to join Crystal Palace, where not only he will be loved but will be given due respect and room to do his job properly.
Alan Pardrew’s departure leaves Mike Ashley with the task of finding a new manager and someone who can work under his unreal conditions. After all, those same Ashley’s terms and conditions have led to Allan Pardrew become the new Crystal Palace manager.
