Real Madrid could be involved in another major signing, after the reigning Champions League holders having reportedly leapfrogged arch rivals  Barcelona and a host of other European giants including Chelsea and Manchester United for the signing of Borussia Dortmund and Germany ace Marco Reus.

As reported by Spanish media outlet MARCA, “the ball is firmly in Real’s court”. The news comes after FC Barcelona failed with their appeal against the transfer ban imposed on them in the CAS (The Court of Arbitration for Sports). The Blaugrana were keen closely monitoring Reus, with a view to bringing the former Borussia Monchengladbach star to The Camp Nou, but the upholding of the ban means Real Madrid appear to be the front runners for Reus’ signature.

Several big clubs are in the race to pursue the German’s signature, including his current employers’ rivals Bayern Munich. But the Die Schwarzgelben are reluctant to lose another one of their stars to the Bavarians, having previously lost Mario Götze and Robert Lewandowski, and prefer doing business abroad.

The Spanish tabloid also report that the €25 million transfer could be favored due to the relationship between the presidents of the two clubs in Florentino Pérez and Reinhard Rauball, with the Los Blancos reserving a “trump card” while steering the move.
