On the second day, the South Africans played well to dismiss the West Indians quite quickly and then after that they came hard with the bat. The West Indians resumed the day with a score of 266 runs for the loss of 6 wickets and it was Blackwood and Holder who were on strike.

Right after the start of the day’s play, the first wicket fell for West Indies in the form of Jermaine Blackwood at the score of 56 runs. This time it was Dale Steyn who brought the South Africans the wicket. The West Indian tail was on then and South Africans were even more charged up to finish off things in a hurry. Holder was dismissed by Steyn and his wicket was immediately followed by the wicket of Jerome Taylor. Things were worsening for the West Indians. Ultimately, they were bundled at the score of 329 runs. Steyn was the pick of the bowlers for the South Africans. He grabbed 4 wickets by giving just 78 runs.

It was the turn for South Africa’s reply. They started off their innings quite decently but the centurion of the first innings, Dean Elgar was dismissed right in the 12th over of the innings by Jason Holder at the score of 8 runs. At lunch, South Africa were poised at the score of 48 runs for the loss of a single wicket.

In the second session of the day’s play, Alviro Petersen and Faf du Plessis were battling hard for the South Africans. They went on to build a strong partnership for them too. But the 56 run stand was broken in quite an unfortunate manner when Petersen was run out at the score of 42 runs and in the process, South Africans lost their second wicket. Then came in Hashim Amla. At tea, South Africans were poised at the score of 135 runs for the loss of 2 wickets with Faf Du Plessis batting on 51 runs.

In the third session, the partnership went on quite well and the partnership completed 50 runs. Both the batsmen were looking set when Du Plessis tried to be a bit aggressive in scoring and as a result of which was stumped in a delivery from Suleiman Benn. He was dismissed at the score of 68 runs. AB De Villiers came in next and started building a partnership with Amla. Amla completed his half century. And after that, rain came into the scene and interrupted the play. There was no further play in the day and South Africa are well poised at the score of 227 runs for the loss of 3 wickets at stumps of the second day.
