Pakistan claimed first ever ICC Champions Trophy after clinching a big victory over India at The Oval (London) in the final match of 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.

India decided to bowl first after winning the toss. Pakistan put a good total on the board of 338/4 at the end of 50 overs.

In reply, Indian innings was ended for just 158 runs (30.3 overs). Pakistan won this final match of the tournament by 180 runs.

  1. Pakistan batsman Fakhar Zaman scored an impressive 114 runs. It is the second highest individual score by a Pakistan batsman against India in the ICC ODI tournament. The record is 128 runs knock by Shoaib Malik at Centurion in the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy (on 26th September 2009).

 

  1. Three Pakistani batsmen scored 50+ runs during their innings (Fakhar Zaman 114, Azhar Ali 59 and Mohammad Hafeez 57). It is the most no. of the 50+ knock for the Pakistan team in an innings against India in the ICC ODI tournament. Previously, only once that happened when more than one Pakistani batsmen had scored 50+ runs in an innings against India in the ICC ODI tournament. That was in 2009 ICC Champions Trophy (on 26th September 2009) when two Pakistani batsmen had scored 50+ runs in that innings (Shoaib Malik 128 and Mohammad Yusuf 87)

 

  1. Pakistan put 338 runs on the board (338/4 in 50 overs). It is the second highest total in the ICC Champions Trophy history. The highest total in the ICC Champions Trophy history is 347/4 (50 overs) by New Zealand against The USA at The Oval on 10th September 2004.

 

  1. Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was very expensive, as his bowling figure was 10-0-70-0. It is the most expensive bowling figures by a spinner in the final match of any ICC ODI tournament history.

 

  1. Indian batsman Hardik Pandya played a brilliant knock of 76 runs off just 43 balls. Pandya completed his half-century in just 32 balls, which is the second fastest half-century by an Indian batsman in the ICC Champions Trophy history. The fastest half-century record holder for India in this competition is by Yuvraj Singh, who had completed his half-century in just 29 balls against Pakistan at Birmingham on 4th June 2017.

It is the joint second lowest total for India in their bundled out innings during the ICC ODI tournament history (India also had been bowled out for 158 runs against Australia at Nottingham in the 1983 World Cup, on 13th June 1983). India’s lowest bundled out total in this list is 125 (41.4 overs) against Australia at Centurion in the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup (on 15th February 2003).

i) It is the largest victory (by runs) for any team in the knockout stage of an ICC ODI tournament. The previous record was 143 runs victory for New Zealand against West Indies at Wellington in the quarterfinal of 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup (on 21st March 2015).

ii) It is the largest ODI victory (by runs) for any team in the clashes between India and Pakistan. The previous record was 159 runs victory for Pakistan against India in Delhi on 17th April 2005.

iii) Also, it is the second time for Pakistan to win a match in the ICC Champions Trophy history after batted first. Previously, Pakistan had batted eight times in this tournament history out of which they had won only once and lost seven others. Pakistan’s previous victory in the ICC Champions Trophy after batted first was also against India at Centurion on 26th September 2009, where Pakistan had won that match by 54 runs.

 

  1. India lost this match by 180 runs. It is the second largest defeat (by runs) for India in the ICC ODI tournament history. India’s largest defeat (by runs) in this list is by 202 runs against England at Lord’s in the 1975 World Cup (on 7th June 1975).

 

  1. Pakistan’s right-arm pacer Hasan Ali picked up 13 wickets in this tournament. It is the joint highest no. of wickets taken by a bowler in a particular ICC Champions Trophy tournament. West Indian pacer Jerome Taylor had also picked up 13 wickets in the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy.
