Defending champions India comfortably qualified for the semifinal in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, after beating South Africa by eight wickets at The Oval (London). India decided to bowl first after winning the toss. South Africa was bundled out for just 191 runs in 44.3 overs.

In reply, Indian team comfortably chased down the target in 38 overs after losing only two wickets.

India won this match by eight wickets and qualify for the semifinals of the tournament. In the meantime, South Africa are eliminated from the tournament after this defeat.

It was only 16th innings for Dhawan in the ICC ODI events, which means Dhawan became the fastest to 1,000 runs scorer (according to the no. of innings) in the ICC ODI events. He broke the record of Indian legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who had completed his 1,000 runs in the ICC ODI events in 18 innings.

 

  1. Indian batsmen Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli put up a brilliant 128-runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. It is the third highest 2nd wicket partnership for India in their ICC Champions Trophy history. The top two in this list are 161 runs between Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman against Kenya (at Southampton on 11th September 2004) and 145 runs between Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid against South Africa (at Nairobi, Gym on 13tH October 2000).

 

  1. India won this match by eight wickets. It is India’s joint largest victory (by wickets) in their ICC Champions Trophy history. Apart from this match, India has won six times by eight wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy history.

 

  1. On the other hand, South Africa lost this match by eight wickets. It is the largest defeat (by wickets) for South Africa in their ICC Champions Trophy history. Their previous record defeat in this list was by seven wickets against England at The Oval on 19th June 2013.
