2017 ICC Women’s World Cup: New Zealand vs Pakistan – Kiwi Bowlers Continue Their Dominance As They Clinch Another Thrashing Victory

New Zealand Women sealed another dominating two points in the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup after securing a thrashing victory against Pakistan on Saturday at County Ground (Taunton).

Pakistan Women decided to bat first after winning the toss but only managed to score 144 runs (46.5 overs) before getting bundled out. In reply, New Zealand Women chased down the target in just 15 overs after losing only two wickets.

Kiwi bowlers once again dominated their opponent batting line-up while Pakistan Women’s miserable batting show continued on the 22-yard. Only Pakistan skipper Sana Mir put some effort on their batting which helped Pakistan Women’s team to comfortably achieve the three-digit total. Sana Mir played a fighting 50-run knock while her no other fellow teammates were able to get past 20-run mark.

Once again New Zealand bowlers did an excellent job which hardly produced any room for the Pakistan batswomen. Right-arm medium pacer Hannah Rowe took three wickets (3/22) while their two opening bowlers Lea Tahuhu (2/35) and Leigh Kasperek (2/35) grabbed two wickets each.

New Zealand women once again chased down the small target to strengthen their net run-rate. After losing an early wicket of their opener Rachel Priest (8 runs), who had scored the 90 runs off 55 balls in their previous game, no.3 batswoman Sophie Devine produced a dominance batting performance on the pitch. Another opener Amy Satterthwaite was steady on the crease as Devine and Amy put a dominating 131 runs partnership off 75 balls for the second wicket.

Devine missed her second ODI century for just 7 runs as she was caught and bowled by left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu on 93 runs. During this knock, Devine hit 9 sixes (and also 7 fours) which is the most no.of sixes hit by a batswoman in a Women’s ODI match.

It was just 2 runs left for the victory when Devine was sent back to the pavilion, which was completed by Amy with a boundary in the very next delivery. Amy remained unbeaten for 38 runs.

Brief Scores: Pakistan Women – 144 in 46.5 overs (Sana Mir 50, Nahida Khan 18, Hannah Rowe 3/22) vs New Zealand Women – 147/2 in 15 overs (Sophie Devine 93, Amy Satterthwaite 38*, Diana Baig 1/28)

Result – New Zealand Women won by 8 wickets

Player of the match – Hannah Rowe (New Zealand Women)
