2019 ODI World Cup: Top 5 Batting Averages

England and Wales hosted the 12th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup from 30th May to 14th July 2019, where England finished their long wait to win their maiden Cricket World Cup trophy. The 2019 ODI World Cup was very exciting due to great fight between bat and ball in the entire competition.

In that World Cup, many top-quality batsmen showed their true qualities with their consistent batting performances.

Here we are talking about the top five batting averages in the 2019 ODI World Cup (batted at least in five innings)

Babar Azam (Pakistan) – 67.71

The young Pakistan cricketer Babar Azam has already impressed with his batting skills in the international cricket. In the 2019 ODI World Cup, the right-handed batsman also proved that he could perform in the big stage too.

In that World Cup, Babar scored 474 runs in eight matches with an average of 67.71. He finished as the leading run-scorer for Pakistan in that tournament. Babar hit one century and three half-centuries in that tournament. His only century (101*) in that tournament was against New Zealand in the League Stage game at Birmingham on 26th June 2019.

David Warner (Australia) – 71.88

During the 2019 ODI World Cup, Australian opener David Warner made comeback to the international cricket after one year (completing suspension period due to involvement in the sandpaper-gate incident during the 2018 Cape Town Test) and still he successfully showed how he committed to the game. In that tournament, Warner finished as the second most run-scorer as the left-handed batsman scored 647 runs in 10 innings with an average of 71.88.

In that entire tournament, Warner hit three centuries and three half-centuries. His best knock in that tournament was 166 runs off 147 balls against Bangladesh at Nottingham on 20th June 2019 (in the League Stage game). Warner played an important role for his team in that tournament while the defending champions finished as the semi-finalists.

Rohit Sharma (India) – 81.00

Indian limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma maintained his top-form as an opener in the 2019 ODI World Cup. In that tournament, while India finished as the semi-finalists, Rohit finished as the leading run-scorer as the right-handed batsman scored 648 runs in nine innings with an average of 81.00.

In that tournament, Rohit smashed five centuries and one more half-century, including three consecutive centuries. His best knock in that tournament was 140 runs against Pakistan in the Manchester on 16th June 2019 (in the League Stage game).

Kane Williamson (New Zealand) – 82.57

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson again maintained his form in the big tournament. In the 2019 ODI World Cup, Williamson finished as the fourth most run-scorer as the right-handed batsman scored 578 runs in nine innings with an average of 82.57.

Williamson hit two back-to-back centuries and two half-centuries in that tournament, including his best knock of 148 runs against West Indies at Manchester on 22nd June 2019 (in the League Stage game). New Zealand’s most run-scorer in that tournament, Williamson played a crucial role for his team to finish as the runners-up in that tournament.

Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) – 86.57

Though Bangladesh didn’t advance for the semi-final of the 2019 ODI World Cup, as they finished in the eighth position, the all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan impressed everyone with his remarkable consistency as a batsman. The left-handed batsman finished that tournament as the third most run-scorer as he scored 606 runs in eight innings with an outstanding average of 86.57, including two centuries and five half-centuries.

In that tournament, Shakib played the knocks of 75 (against South Africa), 64 (against New Zealand), 121 (against England), 124* (against West Indies), 41 (against Australia), 51 (against Afghanistan), 66 (against India) and 64 runs (against Pakistan) respectively. It was the first time when a Bangladesh batsman reached the 400-mark in a CWC edition.
