2019 ODI World Cup: Top 5 Most Sixes By The Batsmen

In limited-overs cricket, the number of sixes is very crucial as it brings the maximum runs from one ball. In the 2019 ODI World Cup or officially known as the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, a total of 357 sixes were hit which were the third most sixes in a CWC edition.

A total of nine different batsmen managed to hit 10 or more sixes in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Here we are talking about the top five batsmen with most sixes in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Chris Gayle (West Indies) – 12 sixes

There is no surprise to see the name of the Caribbean opener Chris Gayle in the list of most sixes in the 2019 ODI World Cup. While it was expectedly his last Cricket World Cup, the left-handed batsman Gayle, who is the only international cricketer to hit 500+ sixes (534 sixes), hit 12 sixes in eight innings of that tournament.

In that tournament, Gayle’s most sixes in an innings were six sixes against New Zealand at Manchester on 22nd June 2019 (In the League Stage match) where he scored 87 runs.

Jason Roy (England) – 12 sixes

English opener Jason Roy was very impressive in the 2019 ODI World Cup as he played the crucial role as an opening batsman that helped his team to win their maiden Cricket World Cup trophy. In that tournament, Roy smashed 12 sixes in seven innings.

During that tournament, Roy hit five sixes in two innings. First such incident happened during the League Stage match against Bangladesh at Cardiff on 8th June 2019 (153 runs). Later, during the semi-final match against the defending champions Australia at Birmingham on 11th July 2019, Roy again hit five sixes (85 runs).

Jason Roy is already the most ODI six-hitter as an English opener.

Rohit Sharma (India) – 14 sixes

Indian opener Rohit Sharma was really unstoppable in the 2019 ODI World Cup. While India finished that tournament as the semi-finalist, the right-handed batsman Rohit finished as the most run-scorer in that tournament with 648 runs in nine innings (average 81.00), including five centuries (including three consecutive centuries) and one half-century.

India’s most international six-hitter Rohit smashed 14 sixes in that CWC, which was the second most sixes record for an Indian batsman in a CWC edition. His most sixes in an innings during that tournament was five sixes against Bangladesh at Birmingham on 2nd July 2019 (in the League Stage match) where he scored 104 runs.

Aaron Finch (Australia) – 18 sixes

Australian captain Aaron Finch also performed impressively in the 2019 ODI World Cup, where the right-handed opening batsman scored 507 runs in 10 innings, with an average of 50.70, including two centuries and three half-centuries.

During that tournament, Finch hit 18 sixes, which was the joint-most sixes for an Australian batsman in a Cricket World Cup edition (Matthew Hayden also hit 18 sixes in the 2007 ODI World Cup). In that tournament, Finch once hit five sixes during the match against Sri Lanka at The Oval on 15th June 2019 (in the League Stage match) where the Australian captain scored 153 runs.

Eoin Morgan (England) – 22 sixes

Former Ireland cricketer and present England captain Eoin Morgan is one of the greatest batsmen in limited-overs cricket history. Morgan is the most six-hitter in England’s international cricket history as well as in the limited-overs cricket history.

In the 2019 ODI World Cup, while the left-handed batsman Morgan scored 371 runs in 10 innings with an average of 41.22, including one century and one half-century, he smashed 22 sixes. In the Cricket World Cup history, it was the second-most sixes for a batsman in an edition as the record is 26 sixes by Chris Gayle in 2015 edition.

While Morgan hit sixes in the three matches of the 2019 ODI World Cup, his best performance in this list was actually the record-breaking performance in the ODI cricket history. During the League Stage match of that tournament against Afghanistan at Manchester on 18th June 2019, Morgan hit 17 sixes (148 runs), which is also the new record of the most sixes by a batsman in ODI innings.

Morgan’s batting played an important role for his team to win their first-ever Cricket World Cup trophy.
