Mumbai’s “Junior Steyn” Karan Tiwari Commits Suicide

Karan Tiwari, a 27-year-old Mumbai club Cricketer was found dead in his Malad residence, it is likely to be a suicide. The Kurar police have filed an accidental death case as the reason for his death is unknown yet. He was suspected of suffering from depression over career issues.

He was referred as “Junior Steyn” for his resembling bowling style to South African pacer Dale Steyn. He was in severe depression due to missing out on IPL selections, as revealed by his friend. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room, on Monday night at his home in Konu Compound, Gokuldham.

He went inside his room at around 10:30 pm and locked it from inside. The family went suspicious after he kept his room locked for a long period of time and they forced open his bedroom door after their questions went unheard for some time.

Karan Tiwari Death: Accidental Death Report (ADR) filed by the police

The Kurar police have filed an Accidental Death Report in the case because no suicide note was found. The police have cited the same reason of him being in depression because of not making it in the 13th edition of the IPL.

“We have registered an ADR and investigations are on.”  said Babasaheb Salunkhe, senior Police Inspector at Kurar police station.

Informed his best friend that he’s going to commit suicide

Karan Tiwari’s friend in Rajasthan told the police that Karan had called him to inform him that he is going to commit suicide. He was depressed after not getting a chance to play in the IPL.

His friend informed Karan’s sister who lives in the same city. His sister called his mother, but by then, it was too late. Karan was declared dead before reaching the hospital.

“He was hoping to get selected for a state team. He was in talks with a few of them. He was a very promising cricketer and had uploaded his bowling and batting videos on his last WhatsApp status. It is shocking that he chose to take such a drastic step. Police sources also said that Karan was tense as he had no job. He played for Souvenir Cricket Club and United Friends Sports Club and recently completed a Level 1 coaching course.” said Karan’s friend.

Mumbai senior team coach, Vinayak Samant also said he had been trying to find a good local club for the 27-year old. He had a fair share of experience playing in club cricket. The rejection from IPL forced him to take his won life.
