5 Players Who Are no Longer in India’s Scheme of Things for ICC T20 World Cup 2020

India National Cricket Team has a major chance to bring the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 trophy home from Australia. Currently, the team is trying every possible combination who can lead the team to victory. From the experienced campaigners to youngsters, every cricketer is being given a chance to showcase their talent and put the nation on the top of the charts on the basis of sheer performance.

The fight for the T20 World Cup trophy will start from October this year. The cup is still eight-and-a-half-month far, but the teams are in full swing. The players are fighting hard for their respective positions while some are trying hard to gain the spot in the team.

Here, we will discuss the players who haven’t retire yet, but it is expected that they may not be the part of India’s ICC T20 World Cup 2020 squad.

Dinesh Karthik:

The wicketkeeper-batsman has not featured in the Indian team after the World Cup 2019. During the mega event, he got only three chances, one of them was in the semi-finals where he could not create an impact which India eventually lost against the Black Caps. He has been since then dropped from the team.

However, Karthik is regular on the domestic side, captaining Tamil Nadu. He also leads his team to the finals of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-20 but lost the match to Karnataka in both the competitions.

Seeing the current Indian team position, it’s difficult for 34-year-old to earn the place in the Indian team. He has played 32 T20I and 94 ODI. Talking about domestic cricket, he has played 288 T20s for Tamil Nadu. He is far from being an option for the T20 World Cup 2020 as he hasn’t played international cricket for a long time.

The spinner has lost his place from a limited format two years back. He last played a T20I match in 2017 against the West Indies since then he is not seen as the option in shorter formats. But he is an inevitable player in Test cricket. He is the Test specialist who can never be avoided, especially, if India is playing in India.

The right-arm spinner was the highest wicket-taker of the recently-culminated decade with 564 wickets. He has played 70 ODIs, 111 Test matches and 46 T20Is for India. He has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket. The Tamil Nadu player was part of the finale of the domestic T20 tournament but unfortunately could not lift the trophy.

In the current Indian team with the likes of Washington Sunder and Ravindra Jadeja, it is difficult for him to get the chance in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2020.

Umesh Yadav

Injury of Jasprit Bumrah gave the chance to Umesh Yadav to get back the place in the Test team. The prolific performance against Bangladesh and South Africa in the home, taking 12 and 11 wickets had put him right at the top. Not only he contributed with the ball, but also struck sixes against South Africa which even amazed the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli.

But the pacer isn’t seen as a  fit choice in the limited-overs format in the Indian team. He has only played 7 T20 internationals, last being played against Australia in February last year 2019. He fails in competition with Navdeep Saini and Deepak Chahar brimming with confidence in the shortest format. Thus, he is not the right option for the T20 World Cup squad.

Suresh Raina:

Suresh Raina hasn’t played international cricket for quite a time now, the reason being his form and also he underwent knee surgery. The CSK player was part of the IPL 2019 edition, playing 17 matches. He scored 383 runs at an average of 23.92 with a strike rate of 121.97.

Raina was one of the favourite go-to cricketers of MS Dhoni but subsequently, he has lost that old shine. He is also not regular in domestic cricket. So, it is not possible that he could get the place in the T20 World Cup squad.

Mohammed Shami:

2019 was the major year for pacer Mohammed Shami. He was the crucial player in the World Cup 2019 team where he also picked a hat trick against Afghanistan. He has improved his game constantly, picking the wickets whenever the team needed.

Recently, against the West Indies, he earned the place in the T20I squad. In a crucial match in Mumbai, he picked two wickets halting the Windies to reach the target. But it is hard for him to be in the T20 team with youngsters getting the priority in this format.

Bumrah, Saini and Chahar are the three pacers which are considered to be one level up in the T20. So, he might not be seen in the T20 World Cup Squad.
