Australia’s limited-overs skipper, Aaron Finch, has faced a tough time before riding on a stellar of a performance. He revealed that he doubted his place ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019.

It is pertinent to point out that he took 22 innings to struck a fifty which has revealed how Finch has struggled with his bat before hitting the form.

However, following his supreme show in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) against Pakistan, Finch further saw himself as a leader of the recently-announced 15-man Australia’s World Cup squad.

In between, while looking at the brighter side of the things, Finch believes there’s a good left in him.

“(Recent good form) just re-assured me that I still am a pretty good player. You don’t lose your skill overnight,” Finch told the Melbourne radio station SEN.

Interestingly, Steven Smith, the former captain and David Warner have returned to the fold. Thus, it has made the Aussies core stronger given to their wealth of experience.

Following a no-show for a prolonged time, Finch has backed himself by slamming two tons apart from 90-plus scores on two occasions. It eventually set a plinth for their 5-0 win over Pakistan in the day-long format.

During the Pakistan tour, Finch has garnered 451 runs in five matches at an exceptional average of 112.75. Earlier, he started off picking up a form when he ended up scoring 93 during the third ODI at Ranchi.

The 32-year-old Finch had a lot in his mind while thinking about his batting slump.

“(I was feeling) huge anxiety based on a World Cup coming up, being captain of the side and not having the output I wanted,” Finch stated.

The opening batsman Finch admitted the fact that he started to think on negative lines.

Perturbed with his failure, Finch reiterated that he has given cent per cent to succeed, but things went the other way.

“I was getting really frustrated that, again, I was preparing and doing everything I thought I could to succeed but it just wasn’t happening. I don’t know why. It was probably just my own mindset, I was starting to think a bit negatively,” Finch added.

Following a barren run in past one-and-a-half-year, the Kangaroos had claimed 18 wins in ODI setup. However, they’ve bounced back after trailing by 0-2 in the five-match series against Virat Kohli-led Men in Blue.

Thereon, the visitors, clinched the series 3-2, before ending up winning eight ODIs on the trot in Asia.

Since 2011, the prominent batsman Finch has featured in 109 ODIs, 52 Twenty20 Internationals and five Tests.

He has expressed gratitude to his team management apart from the support staff and players.

“The support I got from the players and coaches was unbelievable,” Finch concluded.

Meanwhile, Finch’s Australia will kick-off their World Cup campaign on June 1st against Afghanistan at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. However, the twelfth edition of the World Cup will commence from May 30 in Kennington Oval in London.
