The 30-year-old Abhimanyu Mithun has shown a world-class performance in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He picked five wickets against Haryana in the first semifinal of the tournament at the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium in Surat. The match ended with Karnataka entering the finals of the tournament.
Haryana was at the loss of 112 for 3 when Himanshu Rana gave stability to the team scoring 61 runs in 34 balls and uprising the score to 192 runs at the end of 19th over. It looked that Haryana would post 200 runs but it was Mithun whose last-over turned the match’s scoreboard.
Abhimanyu Mithun’s Last over
First prey of the Mithun was Rana on the slower short ball. Next one to move to the dressing room was Rahul Tewatia, who gave the catch to long-off fielder Karun Nair, followed by Sumit Kumar getting out on slower ball and Mithun registered a hat-trick but the show was not over.
Mithun again repeated his trick of the short ball on the very next ball and captain Amit Mishra gave the catch to cover fielder. It was Mithun’s four for four in that over. It was expected that the pacer will build a world record but then came a wide from his hand. But eventually, he sends Jayant Yadav on the last ball of the over.
The score of Haryana at the end was 194/8 runs, only adding 2 runs more where Himanshu Rana left. It was a day for Abhimanyu Mithun. In his first three overs, he went without picking a wicket and conceding 37 runs. It was his last over where all the game changed. He restricted the Amit Mishra-led side within 200 runs.
In the end, Karnataka won the match by 8 wickets. KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal set a big partnership of 125 runs that gave a good start to Karnataka. The match was taken forward by Mayank Agarwal and handing the victory to the team.
