The three-match ODI series between Afghanistan and Windies will start from this Wednesday (6th November). As usual, Afghanistan will play their home series in India.

Meanwhile, Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium is ready to host the first-ever ODI on Wednesday. Ahead of this series, this stadium only organised one T20I.

However, now the stadium is ready to host all the three matches of the ODI series between Afghanistan and Windies. After this series, this stadium will also host three T20Is and only Test between these two teams.

It is going to be the first ODI for Afghanistan since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Their last ODI was also against Windies in their last game of that tournament (4th July 2019). Windies won that game by 23 runs but Afghanistan have the better ODI records against Windies.

In the CWC 2019, Afghanistan lost all nine matches. However, they fought very well in some matches and they were even very close to winning some matches in that tournament.

Under the new captain Rashid Khan, Afghanistan are desperate to make a fresh positive start in ODI cricket in post-CWC 2019.

As usual, spin bowling is the main weapon for Afghanistan. As the pitch is likely to assist the spinners, Afghanistan will have a big advantage in this journey.

However, this growing up Asian side needs to improve the top-order batting quality.

Windies have to give some crucial answers in this series

While Afghanistan finished in the last position in the CWC 2019, Windies finished just ahead of them in that same tournament. Though the Caribbean team started that tournament in an impressive way, their impressive charm faded away with the time progress.

After that tournament, Windies have played one home ODI series and that too against India. Powerful Indian team won that three-match ODI series comfortably by 2-0.

The Caribbean side is ready to play this ODI series under the new captain Kieron Pollard, who played his last ODI on 5th October 2016.

Important players like Chris Gayle, Carlos Brathwaite, Fabian Allen and Kemar Roach, who played the last home ODI series against India, are not present in this series.

Kieron Pollard has a big challenge to handle this Windies team against the growing up team like Afghanistan. However, the Caribbean side has enough talent to play competitive cricket and achieve the convincing victory.
