Australian cricketer Steven Smith performed outstandingly in the Ashes 2019. At the end of this series, he became the most run-scorer in a Test series in the 21st century.
After the one-and-a-half-month long fight, Ashes 2019 in England finally ended on Sunday (15th September). At the end of that five-match Test series, both teams won two matches and the result was 2-2. However, the defending titleholders Australia finally kept the title. Since 2001, it became the first time when Australia are returning home with the away Ashes title.
The two heroes of this series, Steven Smith from Australia and Ben Stokes from England, won the Players of the Series award. However, Steven Smith won the Compton-Miller Medal for his extraordinary batting performances in this series.

Ben Stokes finished this tournament as the second most runs-scorer as he scored 441 runs in 10 innings with an average of 55.12. The pace-bowling all-rounder also claimed eight wickets in this Ashes 2019.
Meanwhile, there was a big gap between the leading run-scorer and second most run-scorer in Ashes 2019. Steven Smith finished as the leading run-scorer in that series as the right-handed batsman scored 774 runs in seven innings with an average of 110.57.
Smith actually missed out three innings in the Ashes 2019 due to the concussion. But still, he finished far away from the second most run-scorer in this series. In this series, he scored 144, 142, 92, 211, 82, 80 and 23 runs respectively. It was a dream performance from Steven Smith.
Steven Smith beat his own record
After scoring 774 runs in this series, Smith became the most run-scorer in a Test series in the 21st century. He was also the previous record-holder while he scored 769 runs against India during the home Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2014/15. It was the four-match Test series where Smith had the batting average of 128.16.

In overall, Steven Smith’s 774 runs are the joint 12th most runs for a batsman in a Test series history.
