The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the unchanged 13-member squad for the fifth and final game of the Ashes 2019.

The visitors Australia started their journey in the Ashes 2019 as the defending titleholders. Now, they have already retained this Ashes title who are leading this Test series by 2-1 with one Test to go. Since 2001, it is going to be the first time for Australia when they will achieve the away Ashes title.

Though England can’t win this home Ashes series, they still can save this series by winning the final Test. From 2005 to 2015, England won all their home Ashes series, but this time they have failed to maintain this success. Now, Joe Root-led English Test team will fight to win the last Test of the ongoing Ashes series.

The Oval (London) will host the last Test of this series from 12th September. In Ashes history, England have won 15 matches at this venue out of 35 Tests, while they suffered defeat in six matches.

The hosts England have disappointed with their performances

England started the Ashes 2019 with a 251-run defeat at Edgbaston (Birmingham). The second Test had the draw result at Lord’s (London). Ben Stokes’ incredible batting in the fourth innings helped England to win the thrilling third Test at Headingley (Leeds) by one wicket. However, they suffered another big defeat (by 185 runs) in the fourth Test at Old Trafford (Manchester) on last Sunday (8th August).

England batsmen have hugely disappointed in this home series. Apart from Ben Stokes and Rory Burns, all other English cricketers have the batting averages less than 31. Stokes is the second most run-scorer in this tournament with 354 runs (average 59.00) while Burns is in the next position with 323 runs (average 40.37).

Meanwhile, the English bowlers have failed to stop Australian cricketer Steven Smith who has scored 647 runs in just five innings with an average of 134.20. In the last Test at Old Trafford, Smith scored 211 runs and 82 runs which led his side to the comfortable victory.

England’s full squad for the fifth Test of Ashes 2019: Joe Root (captain), Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler (wk), Sam Curran, Joe Denly, Jack Leach, Craig Overton, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes.
