ToggleAustralia’s southpaw spinner Ashton Agar has taken massive strides in the latest update of the ICC T20I Rankings. Agar scalped eight wickets in the three-match T20I series, which Australia won by 2-1 after winning the third match by 97 runs. The left-arm spinner scalped a hat-trick in the opening match and became the second Australian bowler to take a T20I hat-trick after former fast bowler Brett Lee.
Consequently, Agar has gained six places in the rankings table. The Western Australian was at the 10th place before the series against the Proteas and now has jumped to fourth place in the rankings. Agar now has 712 rating points and he is hot on the heels of his teammate, Adam Zampa who is at third spot with 713 rating points.
Agar was at his best.
Agar had scalped a five-wicket haul in the first match and bowled accurately throughout the series. On the other hand, KL Rahul was able to hold on to his second position in the ICC T20I rankings, which he achieved earlier in the month.
Rahul was awarded Player for the series in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand as he had scored 224 runs in the five matches. The flamboyant batsman has 823 rating points under his belt.
Australia dominated the series.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli remained at the tenth position in the rankings. Pakistan’s stylish batsman Babar Azam is at the top of the rankings and has 879 rating points under his bag. Interestingly, no Indian bowler is ranked in the top 10 bowlers and Jasprit Bumrah is at the 12th place.
David Warner, who ended the series as the leading run-scorer with 128 runs has jumped from 25th to 18th place. Steven Smith who has shown an upward swing in his T20I game, scored 104 runs in the series. Ergo, he has made a jump of 25 places to take the 53rd position.
South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi who took three wickets in the series made a leap of three places to grab the fifth position.
