Jan 14, 2019 at 4:55 PM
Bhuvneshwar Kumar feels confident of India coming good in the remaining two games. At one stage in the first ODI at the SCG, which Australia won by 34 runs; India got reduced to three wickets for four runs. Two of India’s top-three, Shikhar Dhawan and captain Virat Kohli were shown the door early. Also, Ambati Rayudu got out on a duck off Jhye Richardson.
It was a one-off day – Bhuvneshwar
Talking ahead of the Adelaide ODI, Bhuvneshwar said it was a one-off outing for the Indian batsmen. Emphasising on the form of Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli in 50-over cricket, he said India would not fall in the same situation again. The pacer who picked just one wicket in Sydney added playing too much of cricket could lead to such days in the game.
As the India National Cricket Team prepares for the second ODI, Bhuvneshwar says the side has been in the same situation in the past. Knowing both the matches are knockouts, India will not leave a stone unturned in their quest to win the series. Bhuvi, however, said the visitors aren’t putting their hopes to rest about making a come back in the series.
“It was one of those matches where the top order didn’t click. It can happen with you when you play so much cricket. So it was just one of those things … it’s very rare for us.”
“We have been in this situation before,” he said. “We know it won’t be impossible to win the series but it won’t be easy for us as we are playing away from home. We are preparing in a manner where we have to win our next two matches so it’s a kind of knockout for us, we can’t afford to lose this match.”
Summary of the first ODI –
Australia after electing to bat first scored 288 for five in 50 overs; courtesy the fifties from Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh and Peter Handscomb. While chasing, India lost three wickets inside four overs. Though Rohit Sharma slammed his 22nd hundred and MS Dhoni his 68th ODI fifty, Jhye Richardson’s four-wicket haul dented India’s chances at the SCG. India eventually lost the match by 34 runs.
The second ODI of the three-match series will begin on January 15th in Adelaide.
