Bangladesh vs Windies 2018: 1st Test, Day 1 – Review

Bangladesh ended their Day 1 of the first Test match by posting a decent total of 315 runs with the loss of eight wickets against Windies at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong. However, both the teams are scheduled to play a two-match Test series.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh’s skipper Shakib Al Hasan had elected to bat first after winning the much-needed toss. Windies got off to an excellent start as Kemar Roach sent back Soumya Sarkar in the very first over of the day. Later, Imrul Kayes and Mominul Haque added 104 runs for the second wicket.

The umpires had called for lunch just after the departure of Imrul Kayes on the second last delivery of the 27th over. Windies had heaved a sigh of relief as the partnership had started to blossom. However, in the second session of the day, Haque completed his century. Roston Chase bowled slightly short, Mominul leaned back and cut it away through backward point for his hundred. It’s was a breezy knock from him, taking just 135 balls.

Meanwhile, the umpires had called for Tea after the completion of 58th over, and Bangladesh lost their three wickets. Just after the Tea, in the third session of the day, Windies bowler rattled the batting line-up picking up five wickets in that session. The first one who departed after Tea was Mominul Haque who played an exciting knock scoring 120 runs. After that, they lost their four wickets after adding 37 runs on the board.

Furthermore, towards the end of the day, Bangladesh Nayeem Hasan and Taijul Islam partnered brilliantly adding 56 runs for the ninth wicket. The duo will take the field on Day 2 and will try to add some more runs to get past the score of 350 runs. Shannon Gabriel was the pick of the bowlers from Windies team who bagged four wickets. He will try to pick up another to achieve a fifer in the next morning and finish of things quickly.
