BBL 2019/20: Melbourne Stars Likely To Add Dale Steyn
The veteran South African pacer Dale Steyn is likely to join the Big Bash League (BBL) team Melbourne Stars for the upcoming season.
According to the recent report of The Age, Steyn is likely to join the BBL side as a replacement. The Caribbean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has recently suffered a finger injury and he will miss the entire ongoing Caribbean Premier League 2019.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Stars are also eyeing to sign Dale Steyn as the replacement of Bravo for the BBL 2019/20. The new season will run from 17th December 2019 to 8th February 2020.
According to the report, Stars are currently busy in the negotiation with Steyn before finalising the signing. Steyn can also feature in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) that will run from 6th December 2019 to 11th January 2020.
The 36-year-old right-arm pacer Dale Steyn is recovering from the injury. Despite he was in the 15-member South African squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, he missed out that entire tournament due to the shoulder injury.
In the early last month, Steyn retired from the Test cricket. However, he is available for the limited-overs cricket. But, the selectors didn’t select him in the T20I squad for the upcoming series against the hosts India.
Experienced Steyn is looking for a new experience
Now, Steyn is likely to sign for the BBL team Melbourne Stars for the forthcoming season. Though Steyn has played some foreign T20 leagues, he hasn’t experienced the BBL yet.
Including 44 T20Is, Steyn has played 201 T20s where he has taken 231 wickets (including 61 T20I wickets). In the foreign T20 leagues, Steyn played for Deccan Chargers, Gujarat Lions, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Indian Premier League (IPL), Jamaica Tallawahs in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) etc. He is playing for Cape Town Blitz in the Mzansi Super League (MSL).
According to The Age, another BBL side Perth Scorchers are interested in another South African cricketer Faf du Plessis. The Proteas captain can sign a short-term deal for Scorchers for the new season.
