The stylish southpaw of the Indian National Cricket Team Yuvraj Singh Called Curtains on his career on Monday. The flamboyant cricketer has called for a press meet on Monday, where he announced the retirement of him from the International Cricket.
The 2011 World Cup hero announced his retirement at a press conference in Mumbai. Earlier reports said that Yuvraj had decided to quit international cricket to pursue a freelance career in ICC approved foreign Twenty20 leagues.
Yuvraj Singh made a comeback to international cricket in 2017 after a four-year-long hiatus. He even struck his career highest 150 during this period but was dropped after a few failed innings.
He never made a return to the international arena and even in this year’s Indian Premier League, he only played four matches for Mumbai Indians, scoring 98 runs.
Yuvraj Singh had last played a Test match for India in 2012 and featured in a limited-overs series in 2017. He last featured in IPL 2019 where he had almost gone unsold before Mumbai Indians grabbed him at his base price. He played only four matches for the franchise scoring 98 runs with one half-century.
One of India’s greatest limited overs cricketers, Yuvraj made his international debut with a bang against Australia in 2000, scoring a hard-hitting 84 off 80 balls. He again shone in 2002 Natwest series when India was chasing a target of 326.
Following it, Yuvraj Singh smashed many records for the Indian National Cricket Team. He was the chief member of the Indian team when they won the Inaugural ICC T20I World Cup in 2007 under MS Dhoni captaincy.
Once again in ICC World Cup 2011, Yuvraj Singh showed his calibre to the cricketing world by bagging the man of the tournament award to see his side lifting the trophy after 28 years. It was a heroic campaign for Yuvraj Singh, who played the game despite knowing that he was struck by Cancer. Irrespective of that, he played the game and won matches for the country. All those memorable moments will always be remembered in the heart of the fans.
