The report regarding former India captain MS Dhoni asking Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to release after IPL 2020 left many surprised. As per a report in The Times of India, Dhoni asked CSK to release him so as he can be bought by the franchise at a lower cost but the franchise does not have any such plan.
Responding to one of the tweets on social media, CSK hinted that Dhoni is here to stay and will not leave the franchise. The report also added that Dhoni has informed CSK that he wants to play IPL 2021 and has no plans to retire.
The report of Dhoni looking to play IPL 2021 has clearly hinted that he wants to be part of the squad for next T20 World Cups that take place in 2020 and 2021.
As for now, he has the backing of team management and Ravi Shastri, team India’s head coach, also said that Dhoni can make a comeback if he does well in IPL 2020. If he makes a comeback and performs well, Dhoni will be an automatic selection for the twin T20 World Cups.
The former India captain hasn’t played any competitive game since World Cup 2019. He has made himself unavailable for the matches and is only expected to play IPL next season.
In September, there were reports that he might announce his retirement but Dhoni does not have any such plan for now. Recently, he said that he will come up with an update regarding his international career in January.
Either this means that he will be part of the national squad for the tour of New Zealand or he will announce his retirement from international cricket next year The chances of him making a comeback are likely as Rishabh Pant hasn’t been able to fix his spot in white-ball cricket.
India tour New Zealand for five T20Is, three ODIs and two tests in February-March 2020. Dhoni, if selected, will be part of the limited-overs team.
