Chennai Super Kings have released Mohit Sharma, David Willey, Chaitanya Bishnoi, Sam Billings and Dhruv Shorey ahead of IPL 2020 auction, the franchise announced on Friday.

Starting from England’s T20 vice-captain, Billings, he had joined the team at IPL 2018 auction for Rs 1 Crore. He played 10 matches in his first season with Men in Yellow in which he scored 108 runs off 78 balls.

In IPL 2019, Billings got to play just one match in which he faced four balls. He also left IPL early to prepare for Ireland series. Billings is unlikely to go for a big price at the auction but the franchises will look at him as a backup wicketkeeping option.

Mohit was bought by the franchise for a high price of Rs 5 Crore in auction for IPL 2019. Though he got just one match in which he bowled three overs for one wicket. There could be a case when the team might bid for him again and get him at a lower price.

Willey had joined CSK in IPL 2018 as a replacement for Mitchell Santner. He played three matches for CSK in which he scalped two wickets in 10 overs. The England all-rounder missed IPL 2019 due to family reasons.

His absence did not affect the team’s performance as Santner was back. The 29-year-old is expected to bag a good amount of money in the auction.

Shorey, who leads Delhi in domestic cricket, had also joined the team IPL 2018 auction. He got one match in IPL 2018 and one more match in IPL 2019. The experienced middle-order of CSK saw another batsman not getting a chance in the playing XI.

Bishnoi, the left-handed batsman from Haryana, had joined the team in 2018. Though he did not make his debut as CSK have a packed top and middle-order.

CSK now have purse of Rs 14.6 Crore available for IPL 2020 auction.
