According to information available with InsideSport, Gayle pulled out because commercial understanding with the organizers could not be reached.

Chris Gayle was set to join the former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel, local icon Kusal Perera, Sri Lankan T20 specialists Kusal Mendis and Nuwan Pradeep, and England right-arm fast bowler Liam Plunkett among others in the team.

The inauguration edition of the LPL has been under several troubles with COVID-19 already making it tough to arrange.

“Player contracts have been delivered, and they will have to come back to us with their lawyers and all that. There have been issues with transferring money. We’ll talk to franchisees when they arrive. Before the tournament starts they will have to pay 40% to the players,” LPL director Ravin Wickramaratne told ESPNcricinfo.
