Finally, there comes a historic step in the game of cricket. The respective board Cricket Australia announces a new policy for Transgenders in the game of Cricket. They have announced all the plans and the required aspects to make it possible in the International Cricket.

Cricket Australia has announced plans for the inclusion of transgender and gender diverse people in elite and community cricket. The respective board has announced the plans on Thursday. The move was made after beginning discussions with key stakeholders last October.

Cricket Australia has developed an elite cricket policy and guidelines for community cricket to support players. It also for electing to participate in cricket in line with their gender identity, whether or not this aligns with the sex they was assigned at birth.

“It doesn’t make any sense that today. People are discriminated against, harassed or excluded, because of who they are. Today we demonstrate our commitment to include people with an affirmed gender identity in the game at every level and ensure all people in our communities experience Australian cricket’s inclusive culture,” Kevin Roberts said.

Everyone deserves to be included – Megan Schutt

Australian women cricketer Megan Schutt said that transgender or gender diverse cricketers have a chance to play cricket at the highest level. She believes that the move will further help humanity and added that she is confident of the success.

“Inclusion matters in every sense. Cricket Australia’s vision is to be a sport for all. So, everyone deserves to be included. And also, to have a policy and guidelines that include transgender and gender diverse players will create a better environment for everybody to play the game,” Schutt said.

And also, the policy is closely aligned to the ICC’s Eligibility on the Basis of Gender Recognition, giving guidance to transgender and gender diverse people on how they can play cricket.

According to the release, there will be an expert panel to ensure “fair and meaningful” competition. With measures in place to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment, free of harassment and discrimination for gender diverse players at the game’s grassroots.”
