Cricket South Africa Announce 15-Man Squad for the 2019 World Cup
South Africa Cricket (SAC) on Thursday (April 18) has announced their much-awaited 15-member provisional squad for the upcoming 2019 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis will lead the side in the twelfth edition of the quadrennial showpiece. The visitors will kick-off their ICC World Cup 2019 campaign on May 30 against hosts England on May 30 at Kennington Oval.
Besides, the world cricket governing body ICC has already set the deadline for squad announcement until May 23rd.
Notably, there’s no major name among the absentees apart from all-rounder Chris Morris. Morris has missed the final cut. However, even though a dip in his form, Hashim Amla has been named in the coveted squad.
On the other side, premium leg-spinner Imran Tahir will lead the spin attack. With conditions English conditions traditionally helping the seamers, the selection committee has bolstered the bowling attack with senior campaigner Dale Steyn.
The speedster has been marred by injuries of late.
Interestingly, the selectors have introduced some lesser-known players in their interim squad for the mega event.
Rassie van der Dussen and Anrich Nortje alongside Aiden Markram made it to the provisional list for the World Cup.
Despite a bleak show, the CSA has shown faith in David Miller. The southpaw has a responsibility on his shoulders to live up to the expectations in England.
The heavyweights including wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock, Jean-Paul Duminy and Kagiso Rabada will lend balance to the squad.
With du Plessis keen to give their hundred per cent in the twelfth edition of the 2019 World Cup. In the past, South Africa were semi-finalists on four occasions since 1992.
It’s fascinating to point out that the Proteas had made it to the three semi-finals on the trot in 2007, 2011 and 2015 respectively.
