Ahead of their tour of India, the Cricket South Africa (CSA) has appointed Amol Muzumdar as the interim batting coach of the men’s national cricket team.
The 44-year-old Amol Muzumdar was one of the greatest Indian domestic cricketers. His professional cricket career ran from 1993/94 to December 2013. The right-handed batsman played 171 first-class matches, 113 List A games and 14 T20s where he scored 11,167 runs (average 48.13), 3.286 runs (average 38.20) and 174 runs (average 19.33) respectively. Despite the top first-class records, who hit 30 centuries and 60 half-centuries in the first-class career, Muzumdar never made an international debut for India.
Muzumdar has achieved the high-performance coaching certificates from the BCCI and Cricket Australia (CA). He has experienced as the batting coach role for Netherlands national cricket team and the Indian Premier League (IPL) side Rajasthan Royals (RR). Also, he coached the India U19 and U23 sides at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Meanwhile, in their upcoming India tour, South Africa will play three-match T20I and three-match Test series against the hosts. The CSA believes that the highly experienced and successful Indian domestic cricketer Amol Muzumdar is the perfect option for them. Earlier, Muzumdar recently assisted the Proteas players during their spin bowling camp in India.
CSA acting Director of Cricket Corrie van Zyl said, “Amol is a perfect fit for us. He brings an intimate knowledge of Indian playing conditions and the challenges our batsmen are likely to face. He also assisted us at the spin bowling camp we held recently in India and thus has already built up a good working relationship with Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma and Zubayr Hamza.”

On the other hand, Amol Muzumdar is feeling excited to start a new chapter to his coaching career.

Just a few days ago, Muzumdar was present in the interview process for the Indian batting coach role. Later, the senior national selection committee members have chosen Vikram Rathore for the batting coach role.
The India-South Africa T20I series will run from 15th September to 22nd September 2019. After that, they will play the Test series between 2nd and 23rd October 2019.
