Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) banked on skipper Ravichandran Ashwin’s all-round performance to return to winning ways beating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 12 runs at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
Chasing 183 runs, Rajasthan Royals got a flying start with Jos Buttler and Rahul Tripathi playing their shots. Buttler was the aggressor taking on Kings XI Punjab bowlers. However, debutant Arshdeep Singh trusted with new ball duties delivers for Punjab by sending back Buttler for 23. The youngster deceived the Englishman with a clever change of pace and provided the hosts with their first wicket. Since then, Rahul Tripathi combined well with Sanju Samson to add 61 runs for the second wicket before Ravichandran Ashwin removed Samson (27).
With 61 needed off 30, Kings XI Punjab once again stepped up to dismiss the set batsman – Rahul Tripathi. This was the begin of a collapse as this time another Ashwin – Murugan Ashwin got the better of debutant Ashton Turner. However, Stuart Binny’s 13-run over off Mohammed Shami brought the equation to 37 runs off the last two overs. Rajasthan Royals were in need of someone like Andre Russell’s stature but Stuart Binny tried his best; however, fell short by 12 runs.
Previously, Ravichandran Ashwin’s 4-ball 17 ensured Kings XI Punjab went past the 180-mark. The home side lost their way towards the end after the dismissal of KL Rahul, but the skipper smashed Dhawal Kulkarni for a boundary and a couple of sixes in the last over to finish the innings on a high. Previously, KL Rahul and Chris Gayle got Punjab off to a good start. The big southpaw went after the bowlers while Rahul concentrated more on ones and twos. They added 38 runs for the first wicket before Jofra Archer got rid of Gayle (30).

Mayank Agarwal and David Miller too played their shots while Rahul looked to hold one end tight. Archer was bowling a good line and length as Rahul struggled to get going. He finally reached his half-century before Jaydev Unadkat dismissed. It triggered a collapse before Ashwin’s late cameo helped them post a respectable total.

Liked the way Ashwin rotated his bowlers today. But what was #KXIP thinking while trading Stoinis for Mandeep? Desperately need an all-rounder. Playing with only 5 bowlers is risky. #KXIPvRR

When @lionsdenkxip have caught well this season, they've ended up winning on most occasions. In their four wins, they have a catch success of 100%. In their four losses, they've a catch success of 67%. Today they've taken four catches out of four attempts so far #IPL2019 #KXIPvRR

Not a single over from Stuart Binny, that means he's playing in the team as a Specialist Batsman. ?? #KXIPvRR

Great little blitz from Binny, but certainly not enough for Rajasthan. He surely should've batted ahead of Jofra Archer. Also, how crucial was the significance of Ashwin's cameo with the bat? Very very, indeed. #KXIPvRR
