Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has said that his failures in the tour of England are nothing but a learning experience which would help him to become a better batsman. He played the first three Tests and scored 122 runs in 6 innings before being replaced by Gautam Gambhir, who was equally pathetic.

“Those six innings that I failed probably will help me to play 50 good innings,” Dhawan told reporters ahead of the second ODI against West Indies in his home town Delhi. “Last one year has been a learning experience for me as I have seen both success and failure. But if you don’t know what failure is, you won’t be able to enjoy success. I am learning everyday. As you go along the way, you learn new things but my basic game has remained the same. You learn about the mental aspect of the game as in how to disturb the flow of the bowlers. You mature with experience.”

He also thanked skipper MS Dhoni who backed him throughout his lean patch as he received a lot of support from the skipper. He also added “He has been India captain for so long and he knows what a player requires. Even the support staff backed me to play my natural game.”

This reflected on his form in the ODI series in which he had a better outing with 155 runs from four innings. On the choice of his opening partner in ODI’s, he said he loves opening with both Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane. But Rahane is more of an aggressive opener and his positive approach has helped Dhawan to take his time to play his shots.
