He was one of the top performers for the Aussies in the showpiece event. He continued his fine form from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Warner finished as the second-highest run-getter in the World Cup with 647 runs in ten matches at an exceptional average of 71.89.

David Warner is a phenomenal batsman – Ben Stokes

David Warner is returning to the Australia Test side for the first time since the ball-tampering incident. Earlier, it led to a one-year ban on the batsman, along with the then-captain Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft.

“Warner is a player who can take games away from you,” Stokes said in an interview. “He is a phenomenal batsman and a very dangerous opener so to tie him down and not let him establish his authority against us would be a really big plus for us for the rest of the series,” he added.

David Warner will be looking to make similar kind of an impact on the Ashes.  He provides steel to Australia’s batting line-up which will be up for a stern test against the formidable duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

There was a concern on Monday when Warner needed medical treatment after inside-edging a delivery from Michael Neser onto his thigh. However, the 32-year-old was back in the nets on Tuesday and Langer confirmed that Warner will feature when the opening Test begins at Edgbaston on Thursday.
