After showcasing a scintillating performance against South Africa in the recently-concluded T20I series, Dawid Malan has grabbed the highest points ever in the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings. He was already leading the ranking chart before the start of the series in Proteas.
The 33-year-old left-hander now has 915 points in T20I rankings, and he is the first to cross the 900-point mark after Australian Aaron Finch’s 900-point achievement in July 2018.
Dawid Malan dismantles South Africa:
The attacking batsman Dawid Malan struck 11 fours and five sixes to amass 99 runs off 47 balls to chase down 191 runs target in the third ODI in Capetown. In the process, he also stitched 172 runs match-winning partnership with Jos Buttler to take the game home and clean sweep South Africa at their home.
Before that knock, he also scored a half-century in the second T20I to win the low-scoring match. For his impressive performance, he was adjudged the player of the series.
England dethrones Australia from ICC T20I Team Ranking:
Following the series win, England has also overtaken the crown from Australia and has grabbed no. 1 position in the ICC Men’s T20I team ranking. They had started the series at 271 points but is now level with Australia at 275 points but is ahead on decimal points. India is at the third spot in the T20I rankings, four points ahead of fourth-placed Pakistan.
Dawid Malan now enjoys a 44-point lead over Pakistan’s Babar Azam, whom he overtook to become number one in September this year. Notably, he is the only England player in the top-10. Apart from him, Jos Buttler has jumped seven spots to reach the 21st position.
Meanwhile, India’s three batting mainstay KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are among the top-10 players in the rankings.
