Dawid Malan Is The ‘Glue’ Of England’s Batting Order: Deep Dasgupta

Deep Dasgupta, former India wicketkeeper feels Dawid Malan is the glue of England’s batting order. England will now take on the hosts in a five-match T20 series that kicks off on Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad after losing the 4 match Test series 3-1.

Eoin Morgan will replace Joe Root as the skipper of the side as several players also make a comeback. After losing the Test series, the England cricket team would be hoping to bounce back on their tour of India.

England’s Batting Is Phenomenal With Dawid Malan, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy And Jonny Bairstow’s Presence: Deep Dasgupta

Players like Dawid Malan, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, and Moeen Ali have joined the England squad for the limited-overs contest. There is a lot of firepower in England’s T20 squad.

“Their batting order is absolutely phenomenal, especially Dawid Malan. They have Morgan, then the two openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow. Dawid Malan is the top-ranked T20I batsman, he has been in incredible form.

“Malan’s main role will be to be there till the end. While he has the ability to play the long innings, he also scores runs at a fair click. So he is the glue in that batting order, he keeps them going,” Deep Dasgupta said on Sports Today.

A strong show is expected from the England team as white-ball specialists will join the likes of Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Mark Wood, and Jofra Archer in the squad. Meanwhile, Eoin Morgan’s recent success as a captain will bring new energy to the side after losing the Test series on tricky Indian wickets.

Deep Dasgupta: Having Number Of All-Rounders In The Squad Work In England’s Advantage

Deep Dasgupta praised the England team as he said that the presence of all-rounders makes them a ‘formidable’ side. Liam Livingstone got a call-up after the batsman impressed in the recently-concluded Big Bash League. Jos Buttler returns to the T20 squad, after not being a part of the final 3 Tests against India.

“England not just a formidable team but also one of the favourites to win the T20 World Cup. The way that they have been played both the shorter formats – T20s & ODIs. Morgan is a really good captain, the way he leads that side.

“Maybe the best playing XI wasn’t available for the Test series but they have made sure their best XI is available for the ODIs and T20Is. When you look at their batsmen, the biggest advantage that England has is the number of all-rounders in the squad. They don’t have to worry about the batting because of the all-rounders that they have,” Deep Dasgupta said.

Jack Ball and Matt Parkinson have been selected as reserve players for the T20 series against India. Dawid Malan who debuted in 2017, has played 15 Tests and a solitary ODI but averages over 53 in 19 T20Is and has been the No. 1 T20I batsman having hit 9 fifties.

The Indian selectors have also included some fresh faces in the squad with the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Rahul Tewatia earning their maiden T20I call-up, after impressing in the last year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

England is the number one ranked T20I side in the world. Moeen Ali, who went back home after playing just one Test, is back with the squad. England will be riding on players like Sam Billings, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan, and Adil Rashid, who didn’t feature in the Test series to make a difference in the series.

Apart from Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow none of the players named in the T20I squad were part of England’s playing XI for the fourth Test, which they lost by an innings and 25 runs.
