The 11th season of the Indian Premier League has already gripped the entire nation, and all the teams have got along with the tournament.
IPL is not just a great opportunity for the players but also for the businesses.
IPL is also a great business opportunity for a lot of small-scale and large business houses. Many companies try to associate themselves with one team or the other in order to make some money out of it.
Telecom giants like Jio and Airtel have taken the marketing scheme by a storm and have launched campaigns in abundance to attract the maximum customers.
However, one such campaign has caused a huge problem for Airtel who have been dragged to the court by Mukesh Ambani’s company, JIO.
Jio has claimed Airtel has falsely claimed to offer ‘live and free’ streaming to IPL matches. Jio has now filed a complaint in the Delhi High Court against Bharti Airtel for reliefs on being aggrieved by,
“the false, deceptive and misleading commercial/advertisements”.
The court accepted the charges laid down by Jio against Airtel and ordered Airtel to display on its IPL digital campaigns that for the viewers watching the live match feed,
a) The subscription of HOTSTAR shall only be free
b) The data charges will be as per subscriber’s tariff plan.
Bharti Airtel later accepted the verdict of the court and decided to amend its campaign.
It will now display the content, as ordered by the court and run the campaign. Subscribers have to pay for the data charges as per the tariff rates and an only subscription to Hotstar is free.
The changes will get implemented with immediate effect.
