Was Waiting For Such A Moment To Prove Myself – Dinesh Karthik On Nidahas Trophy Final

Nidahas Trophy final against Bangladesh will always remain the highlight of Dinesh Karthik’s career. India was tottering at 133-5 after 18 overs and had their backs against the wall as they required 34 runs from the final two overs. It was a herculean task and India’s hope rested on the shoulder of experienced Dinesh Karthik as Vijay Shankar was finding it difficult to get going.

A special cameo was required and Dinesh Karthik played the most memorable knock of his career. The flamboyant had no time to get his eye in and he had to hit the ground running for India to have a chance of getting over the line.

Karthik was able to find his timing from the get-go and he was hitting everything from the middle of the bat. The stylish batsman scored 22 runs off Rubel Hussain in the penultimate over and thus India required another 12 from the final over.

Five runs were needed off the final ball and Karthik smashed a six over the extra cover region to leave Bangladesh stunned. Dinesh Karthik recalled the magical moment of his career and said that he was waiting for such a moment to prove himself. The Tamil Nadu batsman added that he had the confidence to take the team over the line when he was coming into bat.

Dinesh Karthik said while talking to Star Sports 1 Tamil show Mind Masters by MFORE, “I was waiting for such a moment like that to prove myself. I had been practicing a lot to face a chance like this. When the real situation came to go through that I think it is fun at that stage. Lots of it happen in an auto mode.

“As you practice a lot and when you are at that stage you know what you need to do. I had the belief that we would win that match, it was 2 overs 34 runs to win, and I still thought that I could win this game for the team.”
