The 75-year-old present Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and former President of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Ehsan Mani, has clarified that he will not contest the election for the ICC Chairman post.
Shashank Manohar will soon finish his current term of the ICC Chairman. Then an election can be organised to decide the next ICC Chairman.
Now, Ehsan Mani has confirmed that he will not contest the election for the ICC Chairman post as he was never interested in this post despite receiving some approaches for this post.
The PCB Chief told Mirror, “It is true that I will not be contesting the election. I have announced it in the media also. I was never interested. The news actually came from India. I was approached by a few to contest and I have said I am not interested.”
I do not know if Sourav Ganguly is contesting: Ehsan Mani
The present Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly can be a strong contender for the next ICC Chairman post if he decides to contest the forthcoming election. He has already got many supports from foreigners. However, Mani has no idea whether Ganguly will contest the election for the next ICC Chairman post or not.
Mani said, “Not to my knowledge. I do not know if he is contesting. My stint with the ICC is over after I left it in 2006. And when I stood in the ICC election, I was elected unopposed. No one stood against me.”
Mani has clarified that he has now only interest to serve for the Pakistan cricket. In August 2018, new Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan nominated Mani as the PCB Chairman.
Mani said, “My interest in the ICC will only be through Pakistan Cricket Board. I was called by Prime Minister Imran Khan and I am working for the interest of Pakistan cricket.”
Mani has also confirmed that Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup 2020 if the ongoing pandemic gets improved. He further added that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Nazmul Hasan would announce it later.
The Asia Cup 2020, which will be played in T20I format, has been scheduled to be organised in September 2020. While the PCB had the hosting rights of the Asia Cup 2020, the Pakistan board decided to shift the hosting nation after the request from the BCCI.
On the other hand, the BCCI hasn’t clarified whether Sourav Ganguly will fight for the upcoming ICC Chairman post or not. The board is currently waiting for the procedure to become the next ICC Chairman.
