Following the exceptional World Cup victory in the 50-over format, the England team was unsure about the captain of the team for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2020. Finally, there comes the news that Eoin Morgan will be leading the side for one more time to make it double in the shorter version of the game.
Recently, Eoin Morgan quoted that he is undecided on his future as the captain of the team in the T20I format. However, the managing director of England Giles confirmed that Eoin Morgan will be the skipper of the team for one more year following the successful campaign.
The One Day and T20 skipper had kept his cards close to his chest on his future after the high of the 50-over final win, but as expected he will lead the side into the World T20 in Australia next year.
Joe Root will continue as Test captain:
Meanwhile, the Test skipper Joe Root will also continue in his role for the England Test Cricket Team. Giles feels that Root is the correct person to lead the side despite failing to lift the Ashes Trophy at home.
Confirmation of Morgan’s desire to carry on came from Giles, managing director of England’ Men’s Cricket, who also revealed that Joe Root will continue as Test captain regardless of who becomes the new coach in the wake of Trevor Bayliss’ departure.
Meanwhile, after the conclusion of two high-profile series, England has got the headache of selecting the head coach to replace Trevor Bayliss, who ended his contract. Giles wants the move to be smooth without affecting the structure of the England Cricket.
Trevor Bayliss, who coached England to their maiden men’s World Cup title earlier this month, had confirmed that he would step down as England coach and will take part in IPL.
