Asia XI vs World XI: Faf du Plessis To Captain World XI
On Tuesday (25th February), the squad of the World XI has been announced for the upcoming marquee clash between Asia XI vs World XI. The 12-man squad comprises of the star cricketers around the world, leaving Asian counterparts as they are part of the Asia XI squad. Interestingly, Chris Gayle, who hasn’t played a game after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2020, is also part of the team.
All in all, four-player from the West Indies, one from Australia, three from England, two from New Zealand, and two from South Africa will partake in this particular clash. Most participants are from the West Indies.
The wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran, West Indies captain Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle, and pacer Sheldon Cottrell would take part in the much-awaited competition.
Alex Hales to feature in World XI against Asia XI:
New Zealand veteran Ross Taylor and Mitchell McClenaghan will also feature in the marquee clash. While Alex Hales, Adil Rashid, and Jonny Bairstow are the Englishmen to participate in this event.
Besides, Lungi Ngidi, who stunned with his bowling attack against Australia, and Faf Du Plessis would turn up from South Africa.
Surprisingly, Andrew Tye is the only Aussies to participate.
Faf du Plessis to be the captain:
South Africa veteran, du Plessis who recently stepped down from captaincy post for his country, will guide World XI in the two-match tournament. The two games will take place on the 18th and 21st of March at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, the captain of Asia XI is still not decided. While Virat Kohli’s name highlights the star-studded side with the India skipper being likely to be available for one match.
The world number one Test and ODI batsman is among six Indian players named in the Asia XI. Along with Kohli, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami have been included for all the matches.
