South African skipper Faf du Plessis is not impressed with the Super Series involving the big three teams, India, Australia, and England. There will be one more team in the Super-series which is yet to be decided. The Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sourav Ganguly has come up with the idea as he wants the best teams to take on each other.
However, Faf du Plessis believes more teams should be included in the Super-series. On the other hand, South Africa was finally able to break their losing streak as they won the first Test match at Centurion against England by 107 runs. It was a much-needed win for the Proteas as they were obliterated in India by 3-0. Thus, Faf du Plessis-led side was finally able to get themselves on the board in the ongoing ICC Test championship.
More teams should be included – du Plessis.
du Plessis believes there should be more teams in the Super-series in an attempt to grow the game.
“The last year or so you can see what’s going on in terms of the big three countries,” Faf du Plessis said while speaking to the press after South Africa’s win over England in the Boxing Day Test on Sunday.
“There’s a lot of movement going towards that, a lot more matches being played against the top three, or big three. It’s probably better if you include more teams, the better to grow the game as much as you can.”
Meanwhile, ECB is open to discussion on the new proposed idea of Sourav Ganguly. Furthermore, Cricket Australia’s chief executive Kevin Roberts said Ganguly’s idea was innovative.
“I think it’s an example of the innovative thinking coming out of the BCCI with Sourav Ganguly as president,” Roberts had said.
“In his very short time, only a couple of months, we have already seen India commit to and host a day-night Test in Kolkata, so a brilliant result there. And now a suggestion around the Super Series, another potential innovation,” he added.
It would be interesting to know things pan out in the lead up to the Super Series. In the meantime, Faf du Plessis would be delighted to get the much-needed win against England.
