Faf du Plessis Recommends Teammates To Learn From Mohammed Shami
South African batsmen fought well in the Visakhapatnam Test but they hugely struggled on the fifth day and lost that game. Indian pacer Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket haul and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja‘s four wickets bundled out the Proteas in the fourth innings. Faf du Plessis is impressed with Shami’s performance and opines his teammate to learn from him.
South Africa is playing the first Test series after the disappointing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The team is under the transition period as young and inexperienced players are admitted to the team. Last time when South Africa played a Test match in India in 2015, they had to face the defeat and du Plessis was the part of that team.
The team which is touring India this time has five Test squad members from 2015 Tour. Faf du Plessis-led team is almost inexperienced of Indian field. So he suggests the players learn from the Indian bowlers like Shami. He said that it will help them in the next Test match.
“I spoke to one of our young bowlers too and said to him that it’s a good learning opportunity for you to sit and watch what someone does when they’re on top of their game in home conditions,” Du Plessis said during his pre-match media conference.
“Just learn from (the use of) his angles of the crease and how does he reverse the ball. So yeah there’s definitely something to learn from.”
Faf du Plessis indicates about change in Playing XI
Faf du Plessis indicates that there can be changes in the playing XI for the 2nd Test match. As the skipper wants a combination of his team which can give the victory to the team.
“For me, it is about picking the team, trying to find guys that can win you matches. So we’ve to find out who are the guys that can pick 20 wickets and who are the guys that can put up their hands and score runs.”
The 2nd Test match is scheduled in Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. ICC has rated it as “poor” pitch during its only Test between India and Australia in February 2017. Du Plessis has the experience in Indian conditions so according to his view that pitch will take more turn than the first Test match.
“From the home conditions point of view, I think it is not as obvious as making wickets like the one in 2015.”
“We’ll have to see how the pitch behaves. I am not a pitch expert but I think it’ll take more turn than the first Test.”
