South Africa veteran batsman Faf du Plessis will continue as a Test skipper for the upcoming three-match Test series against India. The series will get underway in India. Besides, going by the reforms in Cricket South Africa (CSA), it is highly likely that a change is on the horizon in the shorter formats of the top-flight cricket.

Earlier, the uncertainty has loomed large regarding its leadership. Besides, CSA had recently released Ottis Gibson, who had joined South Africa in 2017.

Moreover, other support staff had been let go, which has pushed CSA to go for a dynamic structure.

In the meantime, the captaincy post will also be decided by the team director position.

Although, the CSA release hasn’t clarified du Plessis, however, the interim Director of Cricket Corrie van Zyl had cleared the air.

On Monday (August 5) Van Zyl has briefed the media in Johannesburg.  The temporary director of cricket is set to preside a meeting at the earliest apart from negotiations for the interim director for India tour.

Besides, Van Zyl further maintained that du Plessis would lead the Test team. He has also been in advanced consultation regarding the plans for the 2023 World Cup which is also scheduled in India.

“Faf will be the captain of the Test team and then we will talk about the white ball strategy to 2023 and how that will affect decision making,” Van Zyl told Sport24.

Van Zyl further reiterated that it is vital to take a look at the future of CSA’s cricket. He added that they would look at the proceedings.

“It’s important to look forward to 2023 as well. We need a strategy to 2023. So in terms of appointing the captain we will look at how we approach that,” Van Zyl added.

Meanwhile, Van Zyl had also Van Zyl had addressed that the meeting regarding selection will take place sooner.

The Proteas are scheduled to play three-match Twenty20 International (T20Is) series which will commence will from September 15 in Dharamsala.

On the other hand, Temba Bavuma will lead South Africa ‘A’ in the 50-over fixtures in India.

Besides, the much-awaited Test series will get underway on October 2 in Visakhapatnam.
