As the global situation is still not under control in the wake of COVID-19 or coronavirus outbreak, the future of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 is moving towards the doubtful process. In the upcoming meeting this month, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is likely to discuss the forthcoming T20 World Cup.

Like the recently concluded ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020, Australia will also host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 at the end of this year. The men’s tournament has been scheduled between 18th October and 15th November 2020.

But the world is currently fighting against the novel coronavirus. As the coronavirus cases are daily increasing globally, the near future events have also been affected like the present events.

On Tuesday (24th March), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has postponed the upcoming Olympic (Tokyo 2020) as it has now shifted to the next year. The Tokyo 2020 was originally scheduled from 24th July to 9th August 2020.

The delay of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 will affect the next Men’s T20 World Cup

Though the beginning of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 is still has enough time, the ICC has now started to think about this tournament too. Especially, there is speculation that Australia can go into lockdown for six months as the country has currently locked down the borders.

On 29th March 2020, the ICC will meet with all the international boards via teleconference. While it was originally scheduled as a three-day full-fledged meeting in Dubai, the coronavirus outbreak has forced to make it short and distantly.

According to the Indian Express report, “the ICC is likely to have at least preliminary discussions on the fate of the world cup when its 18 member board of directors including heads of the 12 test playing nations hold a teleconference on March 29. It was supposed to be a full-fledged meeting over three days in Dubai before the coronavirus situation forced a change in plans.”

The major problem to shift the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 is that India will organise the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. So, if the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup gets cancelled, we may see only one Men’s T20 World Cup till 2021.
