Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has recently claimed that he missed out a deserving century in the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 due to the advice of then-Indian captain MS Dhoni. However, many cricket fans didn’t like this kind of comments from Gambhir. As the reactions of that comment, many fans have trolled one of the World Cup-winning heroes Gambhir on the social media accounts.

Gautam Gambhir was one of the key players for the Indian team who helped India to win both the ICC World T20 2007 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. He was the highest run-scorer for India in both the finals of those tournaments, but he didn’t win Player of the Match award in both those matches.

Indian fans can’t forget both those tournaments. In the World T20 2007 final against Pakistan, the left-handed batsman Gambhir scored 75 runs off 54 balls. However, the left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan (3/16) won the Player of the Match award for India whose bowling played a massive role for India to snatch a victory in that game by five runs.

On the other hand, Gautam Gambhir scored 97 runs off 122 balls in the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. Chasing down the 275 runs target in that final against Sri Lanka, India lost their first two wickets in just 31 runs. But Gambhir played a very important role which helped India to return to that game and comfortably secure a victory.

Gautam Gambhir claimed that he would easily reach the century if he remained similar just as before MS Dhoni’s advice

Recently, in a video interview with The Lallantop, Gautam Gambhir commented that MS Dhoni’s advice to complete his century changed his mindset as he suddenly went to focus on his century. He claimed that he was only focusing on the target before that advice.

Batting on 97 runs, Gautam Gambhir suddenly stepped down to hit a shot against the Sri Lankan pacer Thisara Perera but Gambhir totally missed that ball and it bowled him.

In the recent interview, Gautam Gambhir also added that he could easily complete his century if his mind wasn’t diverted at that moment.

Indian captain MS Dhoni won the Player of the Match award in that final who remained not out on 91 runs off 79 balls. Dhoni guided the Indian team to win that match by six wickets with 10 balls remaining.
