Shreyas Iyer has been one of the best young cricketers in the circuit for the Indian National Cricket Team. However, he never got enough chances on the field, which saw him staying away from the senior team for a while now. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir wants the team management to give a long run for Iyer.
He kept shining through the India A games and the IPL, and recently, his twin tons in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament pulled him out of the dark. Finally, after a fine time, the flamboyant batsman showed his class to make things fall in place again for him.

Shreyas Iyer was once a prospect for the number 4 position, but couldn’t make that spot his own. The Delhi Capitals’ captain, Shreyas Iyer has had his chance to seal the number 4 spot. Unfortunately, unlike Manish Pandey, Iyer wasn’t given a consistent run in ODIs. In the 5 innings he has played, Iyer has scored a total of 210 runs at an average of 42, and a strike rate of 96.33.

Iyer, who is making a comeback to the side after being dropped last year, didn’t get a chance to bat in the washed-out Guyana ODI. However, he will have the opportunity to cement his place in the unit.
“India, on the other hand, have a little bit of a headache in trying to give everyone a game. Shreyas Iyer was scheduled to bat at number four in the previous game which got rained off. He will get another chance in Trinidad,” Gambhir wrote in his column for Times of India.
“I have spent time with him in the Delhi Capitals’ dressing room. He has the setup and the works to succeed at this. I just hope he gets a consistent run rather than a truncated one.”
Playing for India A since last June, Iyer hasn’t done that well. In the 5 series he has played, he scored a total of 637 runs from 19 innings at an average of 35.39, and a strike rate of 84.94. While his performances in Domestic cricket doesn’t inspire confidence, he is way better than what his stats show.
