The former Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi has recently claimed that the sudden captaincy change was the main reason for Afghanistan’s failure in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Later, Afghanistan’s World Cup captain Gulbadin Naib has hit back Nabi.

The cricket fans had expected good cricket from Afghanistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. But their cricket slightly disappointed the cricket fans. Though they performed better in the late stage of that tournament, they finished that tournament without opening their points account. Gulbadin Naib-led Afghanistan lost their all nine matches in that tournament.

Despite the positive performances under the leadership of Asghar Afghan, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) surprisingly chose Gulbadin Naib as the World Cup captain. Before that tournament, many Afghanistan cricketers criticised that captaincy change.

That captain never captained in his life – Mohammad Nabi said about Gulbadin Naib

Recently, the former Afghanistan ODI and T20I captain Mohammad Nabi blamed the captain Naib for Afghanistan’s disappointing performances in that tournament. During that criticism, Nabi pointed out the lack of captaincy experiences of Naib.

Nabi told Cricbuzz, “Before the World Cup we changed the old captain and that was the main thing why we couldn’t play well as a team. That captain never captained in his life. That’s why we didn’t do that well in the World Cup, and even though we had good games against India, Pakistan and West Indies, we lost those matches.”

India won by only 11 runs against Afghanistan, while Afghanistan were almost close to beat Pakistan. But finally, Pakistan beat them (by three wickets) in the final over after some weak performances by the captain Naib.

In their final game of that tournament, Afghanistan suffered defeat against Windies by 23 runs.

Earlier, in that CWC 2019, Afghanistan also had a close performance against Sri Lanka. After bundling out the Sri Lankan team for just 201 runs, Afghanistan lost that game by 34 runs (DLS method).

Later, Naib has hit back Nabi by posting a Twitter message, “First You should look to Your self Mate ????????” Though Naib didn’t mention any name in that post, many believe that it was the reply to Nabi.

After that tournament, Naib has been sacked from the ODI captaincy. The 20-year-old Rashid Khan is the new captain of Afghanistan national cricket team in every format.
