The veteran Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has recently praised Virat Kohli for his success as an Indian captain. He feels Kohli is the best captain.
Virat Kohli is currently busy in the ongoing Pune Test against South Africa, which is his 50th Test as a captain. Kohli is the second Indian captain to lead the national team in 50 or more Test. MS Dhoni was the other captain in this list as he led the Indian Test team in 60 Tests.
However, Kohli has already become the most successful Test captain for India. Under his captaincy, India have already won 29 Tests and lost 10 Tests (drew 10 Tests). During the Caribbean tour in last August-September, Kohli surpassed MS Dhoni’s record of 27 Test victories as a captain. Kohli is currently the sixth most successful captain in Test cricket history. Moreover, captain Kohli has lost only one home Test out of 23 home Tests (won 16 home Tests).
The way he handled pressure in Australia, was remarkable – Harbhajan Singh on present Indian captain
Harbhajan Singh has recently lauded Virat Kohli for his impressive captaincy record. Though many are criticising the captain, Harbhajan feels that the leader Kohli is doing a great job for India.
Harbhajan recently told India Today, “If you see Virat’s (captaincy) record, he has won more number of matches than any other (Indian) captain. There are only a few other names (international captains) who have won more Tests than him. So he must be doing something better than others.
“Whether people like it or not that’s their opinion. In my opinion, he is doing a great job for India as a leader, showing how to win games not just in India but overseas too. The way he handled pressure in Australia, was remarkable. There were lot of expectations on him not just as a captain but also as a batsman, and he came out like a champion.”
In January 2019, India won the four-match Test series in Australia (by 2-1). It was India’s first-ever Test series victory in Australia.
