2019 didn’t start too well for the India youngsters, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya. Not only they got overlooked for the SCG Test, but they also landed themselves in hot waters over their conduct on the famous TV show, #KoffeewithKaran. After their ‘crass’ and ‘misogynistic’ comments on the show, the CoA of the BCC had issued show cause notice to the duo. Though a final call is yet to come out, reports say Hardik could face a two-match ban; while Rahul could well escape the punishment.
CoA undecided over the punishment
The BCCI has been in the legal dilemma since the notice got issued. Vinod Rai-led CoA had recently said the pair could face a potential ban of two games; however, Diana Eduji’s final word has been awaited on the matter. However, on Thursday, the Committee of Administrators laid down the words, but since then, there has been no update about the same.
Meanwhile, immediately after the show got telecast, the outrage was there to be seen. The social media bashed Hardik Pandya for his below the belt remarks and a few of his sexist comments. However, the issue which is occurring now is about the legal sustainability of such actions. Though the replies have been referred to Amarchand Mangaldas, the legal advisors to the CoA; the administrators didn’t receive a particular recommendation from the Mumbai-based law firm before it got printed.
New rules/guidelines to come into play
Mainly, the Board of Control of Cricket in India is all set to come up with a new set of instructions for both players and staff. Also, the BCCI believes the agents of the players must be guided of the same; as the show-makers approached them for the players’ availability. Now, what stood out as the surprising thing is the players’ representatives were present at the shoot, and they didn’t find anything controversial.
