There is much conjecture as the T20 World Cup announcement date draws closer on who will make the coveted 15-person touring party to the Americas. The Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) this year is important for choosing the team for the main event.

This made sense for chief BCCI selector Ajit Agarkar was in Delhi during Saturday’s match between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians at the national capital.

The national selection committee chairman and captain Rohit Sharma were scheduled to meet in Delhi to have an initial conversation over the possible 15-member team. Even though the official announcement is supposedly scheduled for May 1 in Mumbai, Agarkar will have the chance to speak with Rohit and get further information during his visit to Delhi on Saturday before deciding on the team’s makeup.

Hardik Pandya’s bowling fitness a concern; Sanju Samson pipped by KL Rahul for second wicketkeeper spot

The captain of the Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya, has not performed well in the IPL 2024 thus far, either as an all-rounder or as a leader. With just three victories in nine games, his team is currently languishing in ninth place in the standings.  The all-around player has scored 197 runs in nine games so far this season, with his 46-run innings on Saturday marking his greatest total.

Hardik has been costly with the ball, giving up runs at an average of 11.95 while only having four wickets in hand.  The article claims that if Hardik makes it into the final 15-man roster, there won’t be much space for other all-around players, as Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh are also in the running.

On the other hand, Sanju Samson, despite his brilliant performance in IPL 2024, is not the choice for backup wicketkeeper in the Indian squad for T20 World Cup.

The  RR captain has scored 385 runs which include a match-winning unbeaten 71 against Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday night. And he has scored his runs at an impressive strike rate of 161.08. Meanwhile, KL Rahul has 378 runs in nine matches at strike rate of 144.27.
