India’s wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha has stated that he is more than happy to help Rishabh Pant. Saha and Pant are competition to each other in the Indian Test team but the former is happy to provide guidance to the latter. Wriddhiman Saha was a regular in the Test team before he met with an injury in the second Test match against South Africa.

The Bengal keeper was ruled out due to hamstring injury. However, Saha’s loss was Pant’s gain as he was able to grab his chances on the tour of England and Australia. The southpaw batsman scored a century each in England and Australia to cement his place in the Test side. Consequently, Wriddhiman Saha was able to get back into the team for the tour of West Indies but he could not make the cut into the playing XI.

Saha would like to make a solid comeback.

“Fielding coach R. Sridhar and I gave some tips to Pant. Pant knows what to do, but we gave him small reminders to help him out,” Saha said.

Wriddhiman Saha is currently leading India A in the second unofficial Test match against South Africa A. The right-hander is batting unbeaten on 36 runs on stumps of opening day. Saha will like to get a big score under his belt to push his case in the national side. However, the wicket-keeper batsman doesn’t want to think too far ahead.

“My goal is to perform well in every match I play so that if the opportunity comes to play for the Indian team, I will be ready. But for now, I’m focused on doing well for India ‘A’ here in Mysuru. I don’t think too far ahead,” Saha said.

Wriddhiman Saha revealed that his injury would have taken less time had he been younger. However, Saha is well known to keep a positive attitude and he is looking forward to the future with all the zest.

“When I was sitting out, I didn’t feel sorry for myself or carry any negative thoughts. The physio told me that if I was 20, I would have recovered in quick time. But I was 33, so it would naturally take a longer time for me to recover. I kept that in mind, and I just tried to enjoy my training,” Saha said.

“Some of my friends and family were upset that I was forced out when I was playing well, but I’m not the sort to feel bad about losing my spot in a team. Right from my childhood, I’ve carried a positive outlook.”

Saha would like to rack up runs against South Africa A to get his chances. In fact, Rishabh Pant has also been under the scanner for his shot-making as he could not deliver the goods in the Carribean.
